Our purpose
An airport for the Illawarra
Wollongong Airport exists to serve the Illawarra region — providing direct air connections that save local residents and businesses the time and cost of travelling through Sydney.
This site is dedicated to promoting the airport as a growing aviation hub. We focus on regular public transport flights, and actively support and encourage growth in the number of routes and destinations the airport serves.
We provide detailed information, news and updates for passengers using the airport and those with an interest in seeing it develop as a regional asset.
The airport
WOL at a glance
Located at Albion Park Rail, 18km south of Wollongong CBD, the airport has served the region since 1943. Today it operates scheduled services to Melbourne and Brisbane, with free parking and fast check-in making it the smart choice for Illawarra travellers.
The precinct also hosts HARS Aviation Museum — Australia’s most spectacular aviation museum — and a range of general aviation, flight training, scenic flight and skydiving operators.
Our history
Over 80 years of aviation in the Illawarra
