Service update · May 2026
Link Airways announced on 7 May 2026 that it will suspend all scheduled passenger services from Wollongong Airport effective Wednesday 20 May 2026. Both the Melbourne and Brisbane routes are affected.
The airline cited increased fuel costs and reduced demand. Link Airways has stated it will monitor the market closely and look to return to Wollongong when conditions improve.
Shellharbour City Council expressed disappointment at the decision, describing the airport as a key economic asset for the Illawarra region, and confirmed it will continue working with airline partners toward the resumption of passenger services.
Wollongong Airport continues to operate normally for all non-airline activities. The terminal, runway and precinct facilities remain fully operational.
We will publish updates on this page as the situation develops. For further background on the economics behind this decision, read our analysis: Why does my regional flight cost so much?
